Part of the Sparking Creativity series, the installment directed by Brandon Katcher is another short documentary that offers a stunning behind-the-scenes look at Galaxsea, a captivating sculpture created by artist Martin Eichinger for Portland’s Winter Light Festival. With its underwater theme, the festival becomes a luminous canvas where many artists alongside Eichinger’s work shines—both literally and figuratively.
Through exquisite time-lapse and subtle slow-motion cinematography, paired with a rich musical score, the film documents not only the construction of the installation but also the audience’s awe-struck response. Eichinger reflects on how participating in festival helped him feel like he and the other artists are a part of what makes Portland great. This beautifully crafted documentary serves as both a celebration of Galaxsea and a glowing tribute to the artistic heartbeat of Portland.
