Soulmate was one of the Official Selections from the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology’s 2024 festival that accepted the Filmmaker Mixer Podcast offer to review their work. This live action short is phenomenal for many reasons. It is both moving and unpredictable. The very first scene shows us a man and a woman who really love each other, only for the audience to be given a massive reveal about the two characters that is completely unexpected. There are many plot twists throughout Soulmate, but they are used in a clever way and not thrown at you simply for the sake of it. I really like the choice of subject matter for this film because it feels really reflective of reality. We’re marching towards a future that might end up looking somewhat like the one in this film.
