The pilot of RUNNING ERINS was created by Erin Fogel and directed by Guillermo Ivan. It opens with Erin dancing joyfully in her amazingly bright apartment and gorgeous flowing hair bouncing with her dance moves. Setting her up as a happy-go-lucky person and learning quickly that she has a young child prepared me for what would come next- getting turned down for smoochie boochies by her child, who refused a goodbye kiss at school drop off. How many mothers have dreaded that same denial of public affection from their little ones? Lots!
The call to adventure comes in the form of a new mother whose child has just started at the school. This woman exhibits a subtly passive-aggressive demeanor, particularly evident when she casually mentions not receiving an invitation to a party that Erin organized.
Although Erin was able to prove she did send an invite, the mom is quick to notice that her email address was misspelled. From here, Erin’s day gets worse when she learns her yoga studio lease was terminated and she no longer had access to the building.
Despite the bad news, Erin appears to spend the rest of her time in a carefree manner. It’s clear she has plenty of resources at her disposal, which makes her situation somewhat hard to relate to. Still, the interactions with the other moms, especially the new one, remain engaging and easy to follow. The fun and games of the show included a funny moment with her apartment building’s superintendent and a silly scene at a bar for girls night out.
RUNNING ERINS is off to a great start and I hope it continues because I need to know how things unfold for Erin. (Don’t want to spoil the episode so you’ll have to watch for yourself to start trying to sort out the tea behind who did what and why).
I really enjoyed how RUNNING ERINS made the most of its locations. The lighting felt natural, yet still vibrant and colorful. I also appreciated the pacing and how the story unfolded—kudos to the director and Erin for creating such a fun, engaging series.
