ROOM SIX was co-written and co-directed by Matt H. Miller and Michael Pacino. It is about a young hotel attendant who endures a traumatic night while on the clock. Maxx, brilliantly preformed by Sophia Echendu, senses something amiss with a guest, Red, (played by Mickey O’Sullivan) who claimed to have previously worked at the hotel. Little did either know how events would unfold in this intense thriller. Completely unpredictable and visceral, ROOM SIX, takes you on a journey in a limited location thriller, filled with intense moments and incredible performances.
I don’t want to spoil this movie by sharing more because it is very much so worth a watch! The script was incredibly well written with this exceptionally naturalistic dialogue. In the press materials to this film, you learn what inspired this story and it is very moving. Without getting into spoiler territory, I can say that the filmmakers achieved their goal of exploring how unresolved trauma in the past shapes the future and can cause one to reach the point of no return.
The screenplay gave the actors a lot to work with in terms of showing their range. I really enjoyed watching Sophia and Mickey emote the many emotions on this rollercoaster of a film and was pleasantly surprised by the various twists and turns in the story. The cinematography was tremendous as well- I very much enjoyed a lot of the striking shots of various objects like the keys to the room. There was something about the lighting and the camera work that made certain moments really stand out.
