Out Come The Wolves is an action-packed, feature-length drama. It was directed by Adam MacDonald, who also co-wrote with Enuka Okuma and Joris Jarsky. Its story is about three friends: Sophie, Kyle and Nolan, who go on a hunting trip that goes horribly wrong.
Out Comes the Wolves is a spectacularly well-made film. The three main actors were terrific, with Missy Peregrym being particularly standout as Sophie. I was extremely impressed by the work done with the animals. Actual. Animals. You heard me right. Actual animals. Which includes wolves.
The practical effects outside of just the animals are also fantastic. The work done on the gore we see in the film is incredibly believable and well done, for example. I also really liked the camera work, especially the use of various slow-motion shots throughout. The film makes great use of the chosen location, turning the woods into this incredibly threatening place, and using different parts of the forest- trees, slippery ground, rocks- to build suspense. Additionally, there are a lot of very clever cinematic choices in this film, which really bring us into the story and make us feel for the characters. Stay tuned because cinematographer, Christian Bielz, will be a guest on the Filmmaker Mixer Podcast. Out Comes the Wolves knocks it out the park with this fantastically-riveting story.
