Filmmaker Mixer wishes the teams of editors and all the nominees the best of luck. Since we will have these sets of editors as guests, we hope to add them to our existing connection to an Emmy winner: past podcast guest, Jeff York, whose twin brother, Greg York, won an Emmy. Greg was nominated five consecutive times for his costume design work on the soap opera, “The Young & the Restless,” before winning the award in 1993.
Here is a recap for the process behind getting nominated for a 2024 Emmy:
1. Before being even entered for the ceremony, a television program must be eligible. Eligible programs must have aired between June 1, 2023 and May 31, 2024.
2. The eligible program must be submitted as a potential nominee. The opportunity for submission opened this year on February 29th, and closed May 9th.
3. Now, when it comes to voting, voters have the opportunity to apply and pay for an Academy TV membership that was due April 9th of this year. Members whose status as such has expired had the opportunity to reinstate their membership by May 8th.
4. With the Emmy Nominee entry submissions and applications for memberships on the academy having been completed, it is now time for the nomination voting round to begin, with the official date for this having been June 13th of this year. This voting round then ended June 24th at 10:00PM.
5. Following this, from June 28 to July 8, is voting for peer group-specific top ten round panels.
6. The Emmy nominations were then announced on July 17th.
7. Sometimes mistakes are made when listing the nominations. Errors and omissions to the nominations were to be completed by July 24th.
8. The next major step occurred the week of August 5th: final round videos became available to view.
9. August 15th is when final round voting began and it ends on the 26th.
