Hunky Dory was one of the Official Selections from the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation and Technology’s 2024 festival that accepted the Filmmaker Mixer Podcast’s offer to review their work. It is an animated short film that consists of a psychedelic series of morphing images that seem to be linked by thematic ideas of life, death, and rebirth, demonstrating these ideas often through the parallelism of nature and manmade items and machinery. It is gorgeous to look at and the style has some interesting elements, such as the use of actual photographs and rotoscope animation. I also enjoyed how older images are called back to later on in the film. Hunky Dory was all around a very interesting experience.
