HI FRIENDS!

Hi, Friends! was an Official Selection of the 2024 Austin Film Festival. It was written and directed by Wheaton Sims. It was about a couple, Beth and Brian, who come to visit their friends at a picnic. Trouble is, it’s terribly awkward, uncomfortable, even. I love how the way the film was shot and the accompanying performances made this mundane situation feel like it had the same weight as a gladiator fight. It’s just a bunch of people hanging out, but the insincerity of some of these people is turned up to 100, and the camera work really brings you into the uncomfortable feeling of the entire conversation. The two main actors both behave like normal people, while the ones whose characters are meant to be more exaggerated, do a great job making their characters feel like cartoons brought to screen. The film seems to set out to be a satire on a mundane topic, and it delivers, boy does it deliver.
