Fulgores (Shimmer) was one of the Official Selections from the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology’s 2024 festival that accepted the Filmmaker Mixer Podcast offer to review their work. It is a 3D animated short film about a teenager and her little brother who live in a wasteland with their father. This film’s world is filled with intrigue, and the story was very interesting and unpredictable. It manages to get you really attached to its characters as it unfolds. It’s one of those films that provides the audience with a lot to contemplate and discuss. I loved the animation style and character designs, and the use of light as a major plot point was a great way to tie together the animators’ technique with the writers’ storytelling ability. I was very impressed by the lighting in this short; it looks genuinely phenomenal.
