Canelo was one of the Official Selections from the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology’s 2024 festival that accepted the Filmmaker Mixer Podcast offer to review their work. It’s a wonderful animated short film based on the true story of the titular Canelo, a dog whose unwavering loyalty to his owner stands as a testament to why we call dogs “man’s best friend.” It’s very moving and sweet. I think that if you watch Canelo and don’t feel anything, you should probably get your doctor to do an x-ray on you to check and see if you really do have a heart. The animation style in Canelo was great. The character designs are all exceptionally charming, and the colors are so vibrant and lovely. There’s just so much to love about this short film.
