Ser Uno (Being One) was one of the Official Selections from the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology’s 2024 festival that accepted the Filmmaker Mixer Podcast offer to review their work. It’s a live action short film about a young man who works at a library, dresses like a mime and doesn’t talk. The film takes a really interesting turn about halfway through and gives us more insight into this character. It’s wholesome at times, and almost spooky at others. I was impressed by the dialogue from the characters who did talk and how natural it all felt, and I was always left curious to see what would happen next and how it would all wrap up in the end. The ending has a lovely twist that seems to leave the film a bit open to interpretation. It made for a great close to a meaningful short.
