A Snail Tale was one of the Official Selections from the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology’s 2024 festival that accepted the Filmmaker Mixer Podcast offer to review their work. It is a 2D animated short film about the unlikely friendship between a tiny snail and a huge dog. This film is delightful! The art style is charming, the music is playful and innocent, furthering the wholesome feeling of the narrative. I liked how expressive the two characters are and found them both exceptionally charming. My favorite little thing about these characters is how the snail emotes with its eye tentacles (yes that is what they’re called; I looked it up); it’s really cute. I won’t lie, this film reminded me of how much I love snails, and I’m going to be thinking about how cute they are in the back of my mind for a while because of it.
