Fortune Cookie was one of the Official Selections from the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology’s 2024 festival that accepted the Filmmaker Mixer Podcast offer to review their work. It is a stop motion short film about a fortune cookie headed man whose climb up a staircase in a dark and spooky room is interrupted by the appearance of a strange monster. The story is very unique and interesting, feeling almost like a fable, with its meaning left up to interpretation given the film’s lack of dialogue. The animation is incredibly smooth and lifelike, and I was also very impressed by the soundtrack and set design.
