Tennis, Oranges was one of the Official Selections from the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology’s 2024 festival that accepted the Filmmaker Mixer Podcast offer to review their work. Tennis, Oranges is as moving as it was unpredictable. This short, animated feature follows a small robotic vacuum and two rabbits. I was charmed by the designs of the rabbits, which somewhat reminded me of the animal characters from Fantastic Mr. Fox. The animation was smooth and expressive, and its use of classical music was phenomenal, as it brought the film so much emotion and this uniquely mystical feeling. Tennis, Oranges communicates strong emotions through all its elements: the animation, music and story, in an abstract and very beautiful way. I can’t say I’ve really seen anything like Tennis, Oranges before. It was excellent.
