New Idea was one of the Official Selections from the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology’s 2024 festival that accepted the Filmmaker Mixer Podcast offer to review their work. It is a 3D animated short film about a pencil, a camera, and a magnifying glass who go on a quest. It takes a figurative concept and gives it form by taking us on an adventure. This short film is very imaginative and whimsical, with a visual style and soundtrack that made me feel weirdly nostalgic. It reminded me of the videogames and TV shows that were popular when I was a kid for some reason, such as Skylanders. It was very unique, whatever the case. I particularly enjoyed the ending, which came with a reveal that brought everything together really nicely.
