“Biblionimus Maximus,” the fourth episode of the animated series Ada, was one of the Official Selections from the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology’s 2024 festival that accepted the Filmmaker Mixer Podcast offer to review their work. This episode follows the titular Ada as she uses AI to help her write her resume and contemplates what the future of AI might look like. The film has two animation styles: one for the real world, and one for Ada’s imagined future world, and both are really appealing to look at. The real world’s style is super colorful and reminds me a bit of a Disney movie, while the imagined world was more cartoonish, with a more minimalist color palette. I really liked the darkly colored shading of the imagined world; it reminded me a bit of the shading I’d see in a comic book. The story and really every aspect of this episode is filled to the brim with endless creativity.
