PROJECT DOROTHY is a feature length horror/thriller film about two robbers fleeing the scene of a theft and hiding from the cops in a suspiciously empty facility, where, as we learned from the film’s opening, a disturbing incident took place. In this facility, an artificial intelligence begins to watch the two robbers, and it clearly has some relation to the incident. The two robbers gradually realize that they’re not alone.

There’s a lot to like with this film, from the story to the cinematography. The script is really tight, and the villain, Dorothy, was pretty stand out to me. She’s genuinely quite threatening, and is a pretty convincing take on what an evil AI might be like, what with the idea of her “evolving faster” than human beings. I also liked the story between the two main characters. Despite these two characters both being criminals, they’re made to be pretty likeable. Their father/son dynamic paired with a life of crime slightly reminded me of Jesse Pinkman and Walter White from Breaking Bad. Their story took some twists and turns I was genuinely not expecting, and was wrapped up really nicely at the end.

This film really shines when it comes to the performances of the actors and the production value. The actors were just phenomenal in their roles, and made their characters really believable. The director did a really great job at making the most of the location where the majority of the film was shot in. It’s just an empty facility, but with all of the camera choices that were made, it feels almost haunted.

The editing was also fantastic. I really enjoyed the scenes where we got to see things from the AI’s point of view; they added greatly to the suspense of the movie and really brought me into it.
