A Masha Ellsworth Animated Short

The 3D animated film Wishing Trees struck me with its use of a single camera angle and zero dialogue to tell a complete story. It shows two trees, linked together by their roots, over the course of several seasons. The passage of time is indicated by fades to black and changes in season, as well as the occasional appearance of people on the bench between the two trees. What stood out to me the most is how it shows emotion both in the trees and in the people, who would adorn the smaller of the two trees with pieces of paper representing their wishes, as well as these bursts of energy on the roots of the two trees. It brought to mind the old, wordless shorts that would play in theaters before Pixar films. If you like those, you might enjoy Wishing Trees as well.
