Brim Broome Boulevard was written and directed by PJ Magerko-Liquorice and edited by Cam Williams. The costume and character design are by Jackson Weiderhoeft. For a full list of the credited individuals- please watch through the end credits. When you get to the end you learn it is a Bad Witch Pics and House Special Production. Kudos to everyone on the teams.
Brim Broome Boulevard is about a young person, Jasper, voiced by Casey Mongillo, who is meeting up with friends in a corn field for a Halloween function. Although we don’t see the other friends, we overhear them alluding to Jasper being the only one dressed in costume. His deep purple dress and standard black witch hat is a charming, modest design. Forced to chase after his witch hat after the wind takes it, Japser soon finds himself facing a plaza leading up to an Emerald City-like location. Walking toward the main building, we see a display for the Couture Coven. Jasper soon enters the store called Brim Broome Boulevard.
Brim Broome Boulevard is a lovely retail experience -open only one day a year: Halloween. This gorgeous, imaginative, magical business has abundant costume selections and many window displays to peruse. We are treated to some mesmerizing animation when our point of view has us soaring through awe-inspiring visuals demonstrating the beautiful dresses crafted by magical, unseen artisans of Brim Broome Boulevard. I wish I could invite youtuber, Luke Meagher, of Haute le Mode to offer a review on the many designs contained there-in. They are adventurously exciting- the types of attributes he seems to value when commenting or roasting celebrity fashion choices.
I normally try not to spoil a film with my review but I do make exceptions. I am compelled to celebrate the team behind this short because they really blew me away. Not including the credits at the end, the short is about five minutes long-and yet tells a complete story. We meet Jasper who trudges slowly through the corn field in a lovely witch costume and when he leaves Brim Broome Boulevard- they literally dazzle in a figure-conscious piece which is completed by a cape held up by birds. Jasper now struts confidentially through the corn field- their own cat walk and now fully embraces their sense of self.
I am not sure how this animation was made- but whatever techniques were used I guarantee it likely took hundreds if not thousands of hours to complete. Brim Broome Boulevard is a triumph-showcasing tremendous talent in animation and storytelling.
