OUT FOR DELIVERY, a short film written and directed by Chelsea Christer, made its Texas premiere at the Rollins Theater at the Long Center on March 8. Selected for the prestigious Narrative Short Competition at SXSW, the film is part of an exciting lineup showcasing emerging storytelling talent.
We follow Joanna as she schedules two delivery services at her home. One is for delivery and the other is for pick up. Christer crafts a visually compelling and darkly comedic story, brought to life through the impeccable physical comedy of its two leads. Deanna Rooney delivers a captivating performance as Joanna, a terminally ill cancer patient, while Martin Starr plays Mark, the unsuspecting driver assigned to collect her body. But when a delivery mishap derails the plan, the result is a hilariously unexpected turn of events that reshapes the entire story.
As a result of the delivery mishap, we experience wonderfully captured moments of human connection and understanding. OUT FOR DELIVERY may be a short, but it has had a lasting effect on me. I truly enjoyed the final bit that had been masterfully set up when we first met the driver. It was the perfect amount of light comedy with lots of physical comedy at an otherwise somber moment. Christer demonstrates her aptitude for solid story telling and I very much enjoyed OUT FOR DELIVERY. If you missed the screening on the 8th, it plays again on Tuesday, March 11- hope you can make it!
